Jeune acteur anglais, la star de Twilight tient le haut de l'affiche dans De l'eau pour les éléphants. En attendant Cosmopolis, le prochain Cronenberg...
Si vous étiez un lieu... Le quartier de South Bank, à Londres. Entre la Hayward Gallery, le National Theatre et toutes les autres activités, je ne m'y ennuie jamais. Je dirais également New York, pour la ligne d'horizon époustouflante que forment les immeubles et le rythme trépidant de cette ville, quelle que soit l'heure du jour.
Un dessinateur... Ralph Steadman, l'illustrateur des textes délirants de Gonzo Highway, de Hunter S. Thompson. Son trait simple et dérangé ne me laisse jamais indifférent. L'autre raison est, peut-être, que je peux dessiner presque comme lui!
Un plat de l'enfance... Les oeufs à la coque avec du sel sur le côté et des toasts grillés à portée de main. Immanquablement, cela me donne l'impression d'être samedi, jour où ma mère me préparait ce plat. Je suis un peu nostalgique de cette période.
Un animal... Un éléphant. C'est un animal intelligent et apaisant. D'une incroyable dextérité. J'ai beaucoup appris de lui en travaillant sur le film. J'ajouterais aussi la girafe, depuis que j'ai eu l'occasion de jouer avec un girafon à peine plus grand que moi. Leur langue noire m'étonne.
Une époque... Je suis un grand fan de la musique et du style vestimentaire des années 1960. Que ce soit en Angleterre ou aux Etats-Unis, tout me plaît dans cette période.
Un album de musique... Il est difficile de n'en choisir qu'un. Je vous donne donc mon top 5: Night Train, d'Oscar Peterson; One Love, de Bob Marley & The Wailers; Moondance, de Van Morrison; Abbey Road, des Beatles, et Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), de Wu-Tang Clan. Ils me parlent tous, à leur manière.
Un artiste... L'homme-canon, au cirque. J'aime le risque. J'adore avoir l'impression de voler. Etre une femme à barbe ne me déplairait pas non plus. Pour ne pas avoir à me raser!
Un livre... Money, Money, de Martin Amis. Je l'ai lu quand j'avais 15 ans, je l'ai lu des centaines de fois depuis et il continue de me faire hurler de rire. Amis a réussi à créer un univers à la fois drôle et mordant. J'adorerais jouer John Self, le héros dépravé et sans illusions qu'il a imaginé.
Un vêtement indispensable... Sans hésiter, le caleçon: c'est vraiment la seule pièce dont on a besoin! Ça et des lunettes de soleil, qui sont un accessoire que j'adore! A la maison, je suis constamment dans cette tenue.Une citation... "Les erreurs sont les portes de la découverte", de James Joyce. Dans un registre similaire: "Un homme, ça peut être détruit mais pas vaincu", d'Ernest Hemingway. Les deux me rappellent que nos plus grandes erreurs sont les expériences dont on apprend le plus. Et l'espoir de s'améliorer donne, à tout le monde, l'envie de vivre le jour d'après, non?
