Marcus Foster Review for "Tumbled Down"

LVING that song... "Shadows Of The City"

Bluesy London-based Marcus Foster’s debut EP serves as an introduction to a relatively unknown musical figure despite having played a major part in a YouTube smash hit.

Foster co-wrote ‘Let Me Sign’, an emotive track sung by Twilight’s teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson that has so far received more than 12 million views.

Now the 24-year-old singer/songwriter has finally come out of the woodwork to give us a taste of his earthy melodies in a four song collection that starts off with the haunting ‘Shadows Of The City’.

The title track, ‘Tumble Down’, is a much mellower affair with a plucked guitar that echoes like its being played in a distant cave before Foster’s restrained Jeff Buckley-esque vocal takes precedence.

Long echoes of guitar introduce you to the final track, ‘You Send Me’, that coolly delivers a low tempo drum beat and earthy Ray Lamontagne-style emotive delivery before the crescendo moments when Foster sings: “Shadows are gone”.

For a first EP this really is a cracking effort, with drama, emotion and a great husky vocal packed into four choice tracks although at times it does feel like some of the tracks could be more understated to avoid those overstretched endings.
