*UPDATED* First *REVIEWS* following the Press Screening for "The Rover"...

....

 photo TheRover.png

from Variety
Pearce is fiercely impressive here as a man who gave up on the human race even before the latest round of calamities, and if there are occasional glimpses of the kinder, gentler man he might once have been, we are more frequently privy to his savage survival instincts. But it’s Pattinson who turns out to be the film’s greatest surprise, sporting a convincing Southern accent and bringing an understated dignity to a role that might easily have been milked for cheap sentimental effects. With his slurry drawl and wide-eyed, lap-dog stare, Rey initially suggests a latter-day Lennie Small, but he isn’t so much developmentally disabled as socially regressed — an overprotected mama’s boy suddenly cast to the wolves — and Pattinson never forces or overdoes anything, building up an empathy for the character that’s entirely earned. He becomes an oasis of humanity in this stark, forsaken land.

from The Hollywood Reporter
Pattinson delivers a performance that, despite the character’s own limitations, becomes more interesting as the film moves along, suggesting that the young actor might indeed be capable of offbeat character work. But always commanding attention at the film’s center is Pearce, who, under a taciturn demeanor, gives Eric all the cold-hearted remorselessness of a classic Western or film noir anti-hero who refuses to die before exacting vengeance for an unpardonable crime.
from The Guardian
Michôd creates a good deal of ambient menace in The Rover; Pearce has a simmering presence. But I felt there was a bit of muddle, and the clean lines of conflict and tension had been blurred: the dystopian future setting doesn't add much and hasn't been very rigorously imagined. I even had the suspicion that the screenplay should perhaps have gone through one or two more drafts, or perhaps returned to an earlier draft, when casting was clearer. Well, Michôd certainly delivers some brain-frazzling heat and directionless despair.

from The Playlist
Pearce is reliably riveting as the totally stonefaced Man With No Name Except Maybe Eric, and Michod exploits his charisma for all its worth in the many extended takes of his inscrutable, unreadable mien, while Pattinson, who we were initially worried might be too tic-laden to fully convince, actually turns in a performance that manages to be more affecting than affected. It’s certainly the best we’ve seen him deliver, despite the rather standard-issue-halfwit yokel accent and the actor commits to it wholly. The contrast between these men, Pattinson as twitchy as Pearce is impassive is marked and its in the space between the two, punctuated by bursts of gunfire, that the film really lives.
...
Accompanied by an eclectic score of drones and electronic pulses interrupted by some incongruous tracks (including a very funny, slightly meta use of “Don’t hate me cause I’m beautiful” as hummed-along-to by Pattinson) the story Michod and Joel Edgerton came up with, all the way back before “Animal Kingdom” may not quite reach the heights of that crime saga, but it arguably fulfills another important function: it shows Michod work with other genres and textures, and still make a film that is unmistakably his, and that is how auteurs are made.
from Little White Lies
Performances are pitched just right between hard-bitten and mournful. Guy Pierce, as all know, has stoically grizzled down to a fine art, while Pattinson manages his new non-heart-throb ground (the make-up team have wrought merry hell on his teeth) with admirable pathos. His limp, hick accent, facial tics and staccato delivery play second, third, fourth and fifth fiddle to a whole lot of heart, and one that Eric cannot help but fall for. If there’s one thing this violent metaphysical drama emphasises it’s that heart is, when all else fails, a man’s best friend.

from Popsugar / Buzzsugar
Audiences and critics at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival haven't been kind to too many of this year's offerings, with Nicole Kidman's Grace of Monaco and Ryan Reynolds vehicle The Captive leading the pack of worst-reviewed movies. But The Rover has been a rare bright spot in an otherwise relatively dim field. The tense, gritty film, which pits Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson against each other at times — and makes them begrudging allies at others — won't be for everyone, but it promises something powerful for those who can stomach its dismal worldview and brutal violence. It also may give Pattinson his best shot yet at proving his post-Twilight staying power.
The Rover was co-written by actor Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby) and director David Michôd, who previously teamed up on the critically acclaimed 2010 film Animal Kingdom. Set in a desolate Australia ten years after the collapse of society, it echoes the same dark, downtrodden tone of their previous collaboration. Eric (Pearce) witnesses his car being stolen and sets off on a singleminded mission to track down the band of killers who took it. In the process, he crosses paths with Rey (Pattinson), who has been left to die by the thieves; one of whom happens to be his older brother. What follows is a film that will repel some audiences with its startling moments of violence, jarring soundtrack, and meandering story, but that will equally attract others with its questions about life in a world without consequences and a stunning-but-quiet conclusion that brings the events of the previous hour and a half — and the film's title — into sharp focus.
Pearce is the center of the film and a forceful presence as usual, but Pattinson puts in a formidable and truly transformative performance all his own. Rey is an unattractive character in an unattractive world, with rotten teeth, a bad haircut, and an off-putting, twitchy demeanor, but there's no sense that Pattinson did any of this in a superficial effort to ugly himself up and distance himself from his heartthrob image. If anything, the role should stand as proof to any doubters that with the right director and the freedom to break free of his own public persona, Pattinson has real ability and magnetism on screen.
You can judge for yourself when The Rover hits theaters in the U.S. beginning on June 13.

 photo edit.gif #3...

from First Showing
Pearce, similar to Ryan Gosling in Drive, carefully chooses every word, every twitch, every muscle in his body to deliver a performance that speaks volumes while actually saying very little. Even Robert Pattinson, giving one of his best fidgety, aloof performances to date, has so much more to say between every word he speaks.
....
from Empire
Characters are well-drawn, despite long swathes without dialogue – Pearce is as strong as he’s ever been and Pattinson shows more range than many might expect.
....
The Rover is one of those compellingly nasty visions of the future that has plenty to say about humanity – whether we want to hear it or not."
from The Star
This minimalist gem affords a chance to see ex-Twilight star Robert Pattinson at his dramatic best. He’s paired opposite Guy Pearce, also in top form

 photo edit.gif #4...

from Vulture
Several members of the press have advanced the notion that The Rover finally proves Pattinson's acting chops, though I think he already acquitted himself admirably two years ago when he starred in David Cronenberg's Cannes premiere Cosmopolis.
from Ecranlarge
translated from French
The Rover is an absolute shock, an outstanding movie that carries the post apocalyptic trip towards unknown and paroxystic heights.
..
The movie aims to be a work with a kind of genre capable of pushing the boundaries of post-apocalyptic road trip.
David Michôd reaches that goal brilliantly, making here his first masterpiece.
5/5

 photo edit.gif #5...

from Roger Ebert.com
There is a huge amount of talent on display in "The Rover", and the opening ten minutes is as captivating as anything you’re likely to see at the movies this year. In it, Michôd presents pieces of his narrative puzzle in a series of near-surrealist vignettes that we’re excited to see come together.
from Movie Pilot
The director does hark back to some of his stronger points though with counterpointed pop music interspersed in a rousing, almost adventurous avant garde score. Most impressively of all, the director draws a remarkably against-type performance from his Twilight star. Pattinson pulls off nervous twitching, shoddy posture and general writhing to great effect; his character's a classic fool and he plays it so
from Toronto Star
Pattinson’s Rey has an accent that sounds more Arkansas than Aussie, no reason given, but delivers a seriously good performance that will help move him past his vampire trifles. He’s well-paired with the reliable Pearce, who has played desperate men before, but never one of such contained fury.
from Next Projection
hough thematically similar to Mad Max, another Australian dystopian roadmovie, The Rover is an interesting take on a future dystopia with compelling performances by Pearce and Pattinson, with the latter succeeding in getting rid of his Twilight-image.
from Australian Associated Press
Repeating the feat was always bound to be difficult but 41-year-old Michod's follow-up - a road movie from hell - is enthralling, unrelenting and superbly acted by leads Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson.
...
Pearce, conveying as much with his gaze than anything else, is captivating throughout as his past and motives are slowly revealed right up until the final frame. Former teen heartthrob and Twilight star Pattinson delivers potentially his best performance yet, convincing as the twitchy Rey and evoking empathy in his tortured struggle between family loyalty and resentment at being left for dead.
I will keep that post update...

*First Reactions* to Robert Pattinson's new look... aka Dennis Stock...

...

from @galndr
 photo Capturedrsquoe3010cran2014-02-19a3000111452.png

from A Suit That Fits
...
Even an immortal god like Robert Pattinson has to brave the cold and here you’ll find him photographed in the midst of a Canadian snow storm, sporting dyed black hair. Excuse me for thinking Pattinson couldn’t look any more chic than his appearances in the Dior ads: this “winter chic” thing really suits him.
Apparently, Pattinson was filming a new biopic of James Dean in which he plays Dennis Stock, the photographer responsible for producing some of Dean’s most famous black and white images. You know the ones: Dean strolling through New York hunched against the rain, Dean getting his haircut in an old school barbershop, Dean smoking in a diner. All those famous poses you associate with the iconic actor. With his beautiful face, his new black hair and his penchant for acting in highly artistic movies (forget Twilight), Pattinson is fast becoming a Dean-type legend.
...
from Popsugar
Robert Pattinson has been lying low for a while, but we finally got a glimpse at what he’s been up to — and he looks completely different! Not only has Rob shaved his goatee for good, but he also dyed his hair black to play photographer Dennis Stock in the upcoming film Life. Shooting is currently under way in Toronto, and Robert braved the cold for a snowy scene on Tuesday, laughing and snapping photos of a bench.
Back in September, we spoke to Rob’s costar Dane DeHaan, who portrays James Dean in the film, and he admitted he was “terrified” but excited to work with a “great guy” like Rob. Lifeisn’t due out until at least next year, but this Summer, Robert will wow us with another transformation in The Rover, in which he stars as an injured robber forced to help Guy Pearce’s character find his stolen car in the desert.

*REACTIONS* to the Cosmopolis trailer....!!

..!

Photobucket
Once again, huge thank to CosmoplisFilm.com for compiling all these reactions...!!

from EntertainmentWeekly:
The drama—competing for the Palme d’Or prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival—looks exceptionally compelling, and the little Cronenberg cinematic idiosyncrasies look downright fascinating.

from Hollywood:
The latest video for the David Cronenberg-directed drama doesn’t do much in the way of clarifying things from last month’s teaser, but this is Cronenberg we’re talking about, so seeing the film in its entirety probably won’t even help. What we can ascertain from the trailer, however, is that rats are involved (literally and possibly metaphorically) and that Pattinson wants a f—ing haircut!! Oh, and that Cosmopolis looks amazing, regardless of what it’s really about.

from AintItCoolNews:
I don’t know about you, but I am dying to see this Cronenberg film…I love nothing more than with Cronenberg unleashes some batshit insane awesome that he does better than anyone.

from HeyUGuys:
Both trailers are rather surreal but intriguing…

from MTV:
The role is gritty, sexy and no doubt allowed Pattinson to show off his acting chops.

from ScreenRant:
The cast of Cosmopolis is overall pretty impressive, with names like Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche, Oscar-nominees Paul Giamatti and Samantha Morton – along with such people as Jay Baruchel and versatile character actor Kevin Durand, a.k.a. Martin Keamy on Lost – in supporting roles

from Complex:
Cronenberg is at his best when he introduces an audience to the seedy underbelly of society. He did it in Eastern Promisesand A History of Violence, and Cosmopolis looks to be one of the director’s most corrupt worlds yet.

from Inside Movies:
The drama—competing for the Palme d’Or prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival—looks exceptionally compelling, and the little Cronenberg cinematic idiosyncrasies look downright fascinating.

from Inquisitr:
Intense and intriguing, Pattinson displays a previously unseen callousness in his roles to date, delivering the oddly poetic yet brutal tone Don DeLillo set in his book of the same name.

from Indiewire:
For those who thought Cronenberg went soft on us with his acclaimed period drama “A Dangerous Method,” prepare to be surprised. If the promising trailer for “Cosmopolis” is anything to go by, Cronenberg is back in “Videdrome” and “Crash” mode. What that means? Kinky sex, brutal violence and a brand of weirdness only Cronenberg can conjure up.

from Empire:
While it’s not quite as gonzo as the short version, the new trailer still provides more questions than answers, which is totally as it should be.

from Total Film:
Seems like David Cronenberg is back to doing what he does best – creating sublimely weird nightmares and slipping them into the arena of mainstream cinema. It also looks like a peach of a role for Pattinson, who’s set to shake off his tween pin-up credentials as the film’s increasingly deranged protagonist.

from Furious Cinema:
Cronenberg revisits subjects that fascinate him: how the organic and the psychological are inextricably intertwined, society’s anxieties and phobias, and letting repressed impulses and paranoia run wild. COSMOPOLIS is a culmination of his masterpieces that addresses the alarming global financial crisis of today’s world.

from BleedingCool:
Adapted from Don DeLillo’s novel, and starring Robert Pattinson in a perhaps completely incidental headline-grabbing fashion, this looks like the kind of lean, perverse futurism that Cronenberg has excelled at.

from XavierPop:
This second trailer is quite a bit more graphic, which I fully endorse…It really gives a sense of just how far the movie is going and just how extreme Cronenberg is pushing the boundaries.

from Indiewire/ThePlaylist:
It’s going to be a freaky time on the Croisette…the most promising non-”Twilight” role for Robert Pattinson yet as the billionaire Eric Packer who has one helluva day in his limousine. Sex, drugs, hallucinations and more cross his path, and for anyone worried Cronenberg had become respectable with “A Dangerous Method” he’s in full form here, even going back to his psycho-sexual roots in what looks like something out of a Terry Gilliam film inspired by an LSD trip.

from AltFilmGuide:
As expected, considering that this is a David Cronenberg movie, the Cosmopolis trailer looks great, Pattinson looks and sounds flawless in the role of the billionaire whose universe is about to be radically rearranged…

from ScreenCrush:
The images on screen – from the parade sequence to Pattinson doing damage to himself – seem to come straight from the world of early Cronenberg, that dark twisted Canuck who made horror films that were as cerebral as they were visceral.

from CinemaBlend:
Like many of you, my mind was blown back in March when the first trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis arrived online. Since then I’ve been desperately craving to see more from the movie, and sadly the new images that came out one week later just weren’t enough. But tonight is the night: we finally have the first feature length trailer. Coming to us courtesy of Allocine (via ROS), the new preview is just as awesome as the teaser trailer and has the added benefit of being nearly four times as long.

from PunchDrunkCritics:
If you thought last month’s teaser was crazy, then prepare to be blown away.

from FilmStage:
This trailer expands on the mind-bending bits found in the first, with a great look at what will certainly be Pattinson’s meatiest role yet. I love the imagery Cronenberg is playing with, as it looks to be something straight out of one of his 80s/early 90s classics.

from HitFix:
I was personally no fan of Cronenberg’s last film, which hit the fall festival circuit. At all. But with this trailer it looks like he’s back in the pocket I like. I mean, it’s about a rich dude (Robert Pattinson) taking his limo across town to get a haircut. Co-starring are Jay Baruchel, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand, Juliette Binoche and Samantha Morton, so obviously the cast stacks up. And I’m eager for Pattinson to break free of the “Twilight” shackles.

from CriterionCorner:
This looks too amazing to be a real thing, and i think i can say with some certainty that Cronenberg and co. didn’t play it safe this time around (do they ever?).

from FirstShowing:
This looks wild, Cronenberg back with more debauchery.

from ExperienceFilm:
I’m excited to see what Pattinson can do in a major role that isn’t broody vampire-y. The film looks pretty captivating.

MovieLine: "Cosmopolis teaser seismically shifts critics perceptions about Robert Pattinson "

Ooh my... that a GREAT article...
please... read..!!
Photobucket

from Page Mackinley for Movievine.com:
Revolutions are usually bloody affairs. Sweaty, shouty, violent things that leave a grim taste in the mouth . But sometimes, just sometimes, they’re golden. March 22 was such a day. That was the day, of course, that the online release of David Cronenberg’s first Cosmopolis teaser 180’d the majority critical perception of Robert Pattinson. Critics, film outlets, and a multitude of industry commentators previously queueing up to disparage Pattinson’s acting abilities are now saying just the opposite. In fact, they’re openly rapturous.
Unwilling – or perhaps unable – to see past Summit Entertainment’s YA-geared marketing of Pattinson, as the sensitive vampire rejuvenated by his love for a human teenager, most critics recoiled as Pattinson’s public persona became inextricably entwined with that of the fictional “super boy-friend” Edward Cullen. AsThe Twilight Saga franchise’s star rose – and that of its young leads – so did the derision.
While some of the reasons for that can be laid at the door of promotional saturation by Summit, some of the past snark aimed at Pattinson was undeniably an allergic reaction to the massive commercial success of the Twilight Saga movies. $ 2.5 billion box office and counting – a figure that doesn’t even include DVD/Blu-ray,VOD and merch sales – the resulting popular ascension of Pattinson was viewed by many critics as a kind of manufactured consent.
Witness the endless references to “Twi-hards” and fan “swooning” that inevitably accompanies any write-ups about Pattinson, even for his non-Twilight roles, in itself a mistaken generalization about a multi-generational audience demographic, and often simply a sexist dismissal of its mostly female component. 2010’s Remember Me, 2011’s Water For Elephants were considered too close to the “romantic” mould of the glittering one, and the recently released Bel Ami – actually shot more than two years ago – did little to change industry perceptions, despite the mitigating factors of a reductive screenplay and clumsy staging.
But now, remarkably, everything has changed. To quote an apt phrase; What a difference a day makes. 30 seconds of eye-popping imagery, scenes of Pattinson evidently well out of his comfort zone, have kicked off a chorus of delighted shock and optimism about Cosmopolis, the return of “old school” Cronenberg, and his rebooted and re-loaded leading man.
But should critics, being the ‘experts’, have been able to hold off on premature assessments about a still growing young actor who readily admits he is learning as he goes? Quick answer: Yes. Obviously no-one should be forced to like something if they don’t, but it’s also true that as subsequent Twilight Sagainstallments moved away from Catherine Hardwicke’s first “indie-toned” vision, the critical mauling of Pattinson (and his co-stars) began. A curious position to take for what was – ultimately – a studio decision.
The reality is, critics can, and often do, get things very wrong. Who can forget the reactionaryism that greeted “Fight Club’s” release in 1999; Pauline Kael’s review of The Graduate (1967) – “The Graduate only wants to succeed and that’s fundamentally what’s the matter with it”; Russell Maloney’s slam of The Wizard of Oz in 1939, James Agate’s famous line about Citizen Kane (1941), being “nothing to write to Moscow about”; Richard Hatch’s description of the Bette Davis scorcher All About Eve as hiding, “an unenterprising plot and some preposterous human behavior;” and John Simon’s astonishing rant in 1977 – “With Annie Hall, Woody Allen has truly underreached himself … it is a film so shapeless, sprawling, repetitious, and aimless as to seem to beg for oblivion.”
Thankfully that oblivion never came. For the sake of space this lamentable list has been shortened, but trust me there are countless more examples. But since “I told you so’s” are boring and hideously smug, a snapshot of the new mood about Pattinson, and some encouragement of the recent consensus to look forward rather than backwards, would perhaps be time better spent.
Twitter, that lightning barometer of opinion, was the one of the first to flood with effusive responses to the teaser. From just some of them [Italics added]: Evrim Ersoy of Rotten Tomatoes tweeted, “34 seconds of ‘COSMOPOLIS” has excited more than 4 minutes of ‘PROMETHEUS’ ever could … neon-washed madness, here we come.” Bill Arceneaux of Movie Boozer and Nola Film Events wrote, “ Can’t take the edge away from Cronenberg.” while Cinevue enthused, “Now THIS is a teaser!” Stuart Barr fromScreenjabber said, “Oh wow, Cosmopolis looks like its going to be R’Patz’s American Psycho from the first teaser,” and film lecturer and short filmmaker, Ben Mallaby, tweeted,“David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolislooks incredible! I might actually go and see a Robert Pattinson movie.”
Moving on to the big hitters. Indiewire’s Nigel M. Smith, described the teaser as a sign that, “David Cronenberg is back to his dirty ways,” adding, “we’re betting (hoping!) that we’ll get to see this one in Cannes.” A positively beaming Drew McWeeny at Hitfix declared, “The casting of Robert Pattinson in the film is one of those fiendishly clever strokes of genius from Cronenberg.” Then, “Just take a look at the trailer and tell me if it makes you smile as much as it did for me.”
UK heavyweight, The Guardian, upping the ante in a piece about Cosmopolis’s pretty-much-almost-certain showing at the forthcoming Cannes film festival, said, “If Pattinson is looking to put some clear blue water between himself and those Twilight pictures, he could hardly have opted for a better choice than this.” Matt Goldberg at Collider admitted, “I can take or leave Bel Ami, but Cosmopolis looks pretty great and I’m eager to see Pattinson break free of his famous mopey vampire.”
Katey Rich at Cinema Blend chimed, “ if the kid can act, we haven’t seen it yet. But 30 seconds from now you’ll probably be able to put all those doubts to rest, because a short teaser for Cosmopolis is here, and it is fantastic,”and Oliver Lyttleton at Indiewire said of Pattinson,”Damned if he doesn’t look, in the very brief glimpses, right at home. Is it possible that all the doubters are about to be proved wrong with a terrific performance?”
Similar sentiments from Todd Brown at Twitch, Max Evry at Next Movie, Aubrey Sitterson at IFC, Complex’s Jason Serafino, Oliver Franklin at GQ magazine, Empire Online’s James White, MTV, Jordan Zakarin at The Hollywood Reporter, Den of Geek, Movie Line, Fused Film, Filmoria, ScreenRant,Ultraculture UK, Wall Street Journal and dozens more outlets (not to mention those in countries other than the U.S and U.K) added their own versions of “we’re-excited-about-this-teaser”comment – and they’re still flowing.
So, as we approach April 19, when definitive word from Cannes Festival organizers will confirm whether (or not) Cosmopolis will show, and of course, the film’s actual release (present dates, May 23, France and May 31, Portugal) – what have we learnt? Simply this: If you want to see the best from someone, whether actor, director, friend or stranger, put hasty judgement to one side and they might just show you. As the dust of March 22 settles, this much is clear: Robert Pattinson can act.
Go on. Say it. Out loud.
and just because I can't get enough of it...!!

More *REACTIONS* to the Cosmopolis teaser...!

Can't get enough of it of the trailer...
Rob, the music, the pics... everything is really really hypnotic... lol

and once again... a HUGE thanks CosmopolisFilm.com for compiling all those reactions...!
and once again, reactions are all quite ecstatic...

from HitFix:
This makes me happy on so many levels…When they announced that he was adapting Don DeLillo’s “Cosmopolis” into a film, it was exciting because the author’s voice is so distinct and strong that watching Cronenberg insert his own perspective into that material seemed like an exciting creative cocktail….The casting of Robert Pattinson in the film is one of those fiendishly clever strokes of genius from Cronenberg…Just take a look at the trailer and tell me if it makes you smile as much as it does for me.

from Indiewire:
For those who thought David Cronenberg went soft on us with his acclaimed period drama “A Dangerous Method,” prepare to be surprised.

from UltraCulture(UK):
After his brief (and admittedly delightful) foray into the world of tea and psychoanalysis with A Dangerous Method, it’s good to see David Cronenberg heading straight back to mindfuck country with Cosmopolis, his upcoming, sure-to-be-Cannes-premiering Don DeLillo adaptation starring Robert Pattinson in his first major post-Twilight role. And what a way to leave the franchise!

from IFC(IndependentFilmChannel):
Judging from the teaser trailer for “Cosmopolis,” the director’s next outing looks to be as intense, violent and sexual as anything he’s ever done.

from XavierPop:
Weird, Whacky and OG Cronenberg is Back With Cosmopolis…Definitely check out this trailer and enjoy.

from Badassdigest
Cosmopolis was already a huge question mark before the release of this first teaser. Now it’s a question mark paired with an exclamation point.
Eye stabbings, car pissings and self-inflicted gunshots to the palm pretty much invalidate any lingering Robert Pattinson hate – regardless of whether the movie is good or not. If it is as good as it looks, however, this could be the film that finally bridges the frayed relationship between you and your Twilight-obsessed stepmother. Either way, it looks like something extremely abnormal and exciting is headed our way, especially for those poor souls who thinkeXistenZ was the last good Cronenberg film.

The first teaser trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis has arrived and it looks strange, very strange indeed; but in a very, very good way. Robert Pattinson stars as Eric, a 28 year old billionaire who has to make an epic journey across town to get a haircut. Yes, you read that correctly: a haircut. But don’t let that put you off, this trailer looks amazing.

This looks wild, and it’s only our very first tease!

from Complex.com
Of course, like in any Cronenberg film, this simple task makes a few pit stops along the way. We see quick flashes of some naked women, a strange scene where Pattinson apparently shoots himself in the hand, and what looks to be a gargantuan rat-like creature traveling through New York. We’re really not sure what’s going on here, but we’re intrigued at the very least.
Pattinson looks ready to break free from the Twilight mold and the material itself looks to perfectly compliment Cronenberg’s style. We would love to see more than what this international teaser shows off, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until the film gets released some time in 2012 to get the whole picture.

from Esquire
Likelihood You’ll Actually See It: Do you like sci-fi movies with the violence turned up a bit? Do you like David Cronenberg movies? Parables about the ruins of our modern world? Are you invested in the unpredictable career of Robert Pattinson for some inexplicable reason? If so, high.

from Vulture
… it’s coming out in Europe in May — and it’s decidedly different than your usual Pattinson movies, as the appealingly normal-bodied star has wild nude sex, fires a gun, and acts all nihilistic.

from Scott Weinberg/Movies.com:
Now here’s an upcoming film that will unite (at least) two decidedly different types of movie geeks: the old-schoolDavid Cronenberg junkies and the rabid Robert Pattinson supporters.

from MTV
“Cosmopolis’s” first teaser trailer has hit the web and let’s just say it’s a bit more extreme than we would have expected.
The 30-second-long French trailer — released yesterday on the film’s French Facebook — teases a performance from Robert Pattinson that is unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
**
In true David Cronenberg style, “Cosmopolis” will be noir, it will be dark, and it will be weird.

from Indiewire/ThompsonOnHollywood:
This teaser suggests that “Cosmopolis” marks the Canadian’s return to his darker, nastier ways in this near future-set thriller based on Don DeLillo’s novel.

from GQ (UK):
Cosmopolis is one of our most anticipated films of the year and the first teaser trailer – all mad neon text, sex (which, if it’s sticking to the book, we’ll be seeing a lot of) and Eric Packer’s bizarre penchant for self mutilation – has only affirmed that.

from Empire Magazine:
It’s a very brief little shot of pure Cronenberg weirdness, but from the looks of this, it could be Pattinson’s most interesting work in a while. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see the whole thing, but this is certainly something very different from most of the films he’s tried before.

from LivinginCinema.com
Ok, you can pretty much stow any and all worries you may have had about Robert Pattinson in David Cronenberg’s adaptation of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis. This very much looks to be something of a return to an earlier tone fromCronenberg. Consider my skepticism ereased.

from ScreenRant.com
There’s a whole lot of surreal and disturbing imagery packed into that thirty seconds of Cosmopolis footage, to say the least. Cronenberg’s latest looks like a sort of darker character study mixed with elements of the “body horror” genre that’s long been his focus as a filmmaker (see: The Fly, Dead Ringers, Crash, etc.). Similarly, there’s a 1980s satirical vibe to the proceedings that recalls his work on Videodrome, while the existential aspects of Eric Packer’s single-day odyssey bear a resemblance to those explored in Cronenberg’s Spider adaptation. Color us intrigued to see how Cronenberg’s latest symphony of madness plays out in full, for those reasons.

from SlashFilm.com
Well, hello, David Cronenberg! In 2012 the director is going to unleash his second film in two years, and for those who thought A Dangerous Method was too dry, it looks like Cosmopolis might be for you. A teaser has just landed for the film, and it looks nuts.
The film stars Robert Pattinson in an adaptation of a novel by Don DeLillo, and it looks like Cronenberg’s most overtly sexual movie since Crash, and his most visually strange since eXistenZ. What we see here of Pattinson’s character Eric Packer, a young billionaire with a rather specific and dark worldview, makes him seem to fit right in the mold of a classic Cronenberg character like Videodrome‘s Max Renn. “I’m looking for more… show me something I don’t know” could have come right out of Renn’s mouth.
**
There was a lot of hand-wringing when Cronenberg’s original choice for Packer, Colin Farrell, was replaced with Pattinson. But it looks like the chance might have been for the better. Seeing these hints of what Cronenberg has done with the character, and how messed-up he might be, I can’t see Farrell getting the same sense of open-mouth surprise out of an audience that Pattinson will. He’s not the guy that you expect to see doing this stuff, and that’s part of why this works.

from FusedFilm.com
When you see a trailer for a movie like David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis starring Robert Pattinson, your views on the Twilight actor should change almost immediately. Part of that reason is that Pattinson is taking on a dark and very mature but also very twisted role. The other is because Cronenberg is involved.
A teaser for Cosmopolis has just landed, and if your views on Pattinson haven’t changed by the end of the trailer, then there isn’t any hope of you becoming a fan of the actor. The trailer is visually stunning filled with sex, strobe lights, dinosaurs, guns, and even more sex. The movie will follow Pattinson’s character who spends 24 hours crossing all of Manhattan in a limo. Of course the aforementioned visual stunners will make you believe its just more than a fancy lazy day driving.
This trailer is absoulutely wacky and I like it.

from Hollywood.com
At some point while watching the first teaser trailer for David Cronenberg’s upcoming thriller Cosmopolis, you’re going to be hit with a question. That question might be, “Did Robert Pattinson just shoot himself?” It could be, “Is he urinating inside the car?” Or possibly even, “Is that a giant rat?” And the answer to any and all of these questions is invariably, “Yes.”
But one question that will probably not be answered: “What is going on?” It’s hard to say. But that only makes Cronenberg’s NSFW trailer more compelling.
In the film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel, Pattinson plays a multimillionaire in a tumultuous trek throughout New York City over the course of a single day. But even a plot that loose isn’t really discernible in this strange, unbelievable engrossing trailer.

from Collider:
Cosmopolis looks pretty great, and I’m eager to see Pattinson break free of his famous mopey vampire.

from RamaScreen:
Shooting your own left hand, f*ing in a limo, all kinds of crazy sh*t is happening in this teaser trailer for David Cronenberg’s new film, COSMOPOLIS. It’s as if the teaser is saying welcome to yet another Cronenberg movie, b*tch!

from Huffington Post (Canada)
A teaser trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis has appeared online, showing its heart throb star Robert Pattinson in a dangerous new light.

from The Hollywood Reporter
Robert Pattinson will once again play dark and brooding, but his latest role proves he can do more than pine and sparkle.
The Twilight star plays a 28-year-old playboy billionaire who goes for a deadly limo ride in David Cronenberg’s upcoming Cosmopolis. Self-interested, acquisitive and nihilistic, Pattinson goes very against type from his Edward Cullen character in the vampire films, leaning more toward the manipulative philanderer of Bel Ami, which opens June 8.

from MovieLine
Move over Prometheus: David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson are here with a 30-second foreign teaser forCosmopolis, their adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel about a young billionaire’s dark, demented and all-around catastrophic 24-hour Manhattan odyssey. And it looks amazing.
In fairness, it’s basically only 30 NSFW seconds of hyper-edited visuals, but what visuals: Times Square overrun with dinosaurs, Pattinson’s Eric Packer shooting a hole through his hand, limousine trysts and pee breaks, and all the quintessentially Cronenbergian glimpses of the perverse in the quotidian. Niftier still is the dialogue introducing the teaser, clipped in DeLillo’s own trademark staccato, hinting at a spiritual fidelity to the flawed but sui generis source material. It just looks and feels right. We’ll see how the other 100 minutes or so can compare later this spring, whenCosmopolis presumably debuts (and lands an American distributor) at Cannes.
from NextMovie.com
Geez, David Cronenberg, way to corrupt our boy Robert Pattinson.
Before he was just a sparkly emo vampire, but now he’s a hyper-decadent rich dude humping and shooting everything in sight during the 30-seconds of bonkers bliss that is the “Cosmopolis” teaser trailer.
As if drawing a line in the sand to say “no more Mr. Nice Blooddrinker,” R.Pattz is taking things to a whole other level of bizarre as his billionaire character Eric Packer rides a limo across a pseudo-futuristic Manhattan where anything goes, including tons o’ sex, shooting his own hand and run ins with giant, fire-breathing dinosaur rats.

from MovieFanatic.com
If Robert Pattinson is trying to break out of his Twilight persona, hooking up with visionary director David Cronenberg is certainly one way to go. As evidenced by the teaser trailer for Cosmopolis that has debuted, their collaboration is just what the actor needs for people to forget about that Edward guy.

from CinemaBlend:
A short teaser for Cosmopolis is here, and it is fantastic.

from The Insider:
A new teaser trailer gives us a first glimpse at the film now and I am seriously impressed.

from TheFilmStage:
[David Cronenberg] is back to doing what he does best.

from RopesofSilicon:
I’m not sure what other signs we need when it comes to expecting David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis to play at the Cannes Film Festival, but with a May 23 release already set for France and now a teaser trailer with French subtitles all that’s left is the official announcement…A new Cronenberg film is always something to get excited for.

from NerdBastards:
The film, from the director of A History of Violence and Crash (the superior one with car fucking and crashing and fucking), looks insane, violent, magnificent, and in the evocative words of White Goodman, “Reaaaaal, freakah naughty”.

from Den of Geek:
Cosmopolis, adapted from the novel of the same name by Dom DeLillo, looks like a return to the kind of assaultive filmmaking we’d associate with Cronenberg, and we’ve little doubt that it’ll be quite superb.

from Flix 66:
AS much as I want to make fun of Robert Pattinson, I do think the guy has some talent and it’s evident in this lightning-quick teaser trailer (the whole thing is barely 30 seconds). It looks like it has a great mix of violence, sex and mystery to keep it going…This sounds like typical fare for director David Cronenberg and a great opportunity for Robert Pattinson.

New *REACTION* to the Cosmopolis teaser...!

hé hé...

from le figaro.fr

*REACTIONS* to the Cosmopolis teaser...!

Quite dithyrambics I must say...
And I DO agree with all of them...!!

this trailer is just brilliant... and such a good way to get rid of Edward...!! (even if I do love Edward, remember) but for Rob's career, he couldn't have done a better choice....!

Anyway.... about the date... 23d May... plus French subtitles....
gosh, if only this could mean Cannes.... Photobucket

huge thanks to Cosmopolis Film for compelling all those reactions....

from Bleeding Cool:
My hunch is that it’s going to be superb.

from DYI:
The first trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis has emerged and it looks like the director has returned to his reassuringly disturbing ways…Robert Pattinson is set to give the performance of his career as young billionaire Eric Packer, who has a very eventful day.

from Film School Rejects:
Whoa. Alright. If Robert Pattinson is trying to break out of his mold, he couldn’t have picked a better project than David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis.

from Gather:
Even in these first, brief snapshots, watching Pattinson inhabit the Cosmopolisuniverse, the world of Forks and the Cullens never seemed more distant or irrelevant. And when one considers the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 teaser was released only yesterday, it says something quite startling about Pattinson’s believability and immersion in the role of Eric Packer, that all you want to do after the teaser ends – is watch it again and again.

from Oh No They Didn’t:
The David Cronenberg we’ve been missing since Spider is B A C K and Robert Pattinson is along for the ride.

from Twitch:
Old Dave is coming back with Cosmopolis. The first teaser for the adaptation of Don Delillo’s novel has arrived online and it’s full of all the kink fans have come to expect from Cronenberg. It also puts to rest any worries about the casting of Robert Pattinson, who seems to fit into this world perfectly.

from Indiewire/The Playlist:
It looks, to be frank, absolutely brilliant, and it’s certainly dampened any doubts we might have had for the time being. And R-Patz? Damned if he doesn’t look, in the very brief glimpses, right at home.

from Hey U Guys:
I don’t know if this trailer would be classed as a red band trailer but I think it’s as close to red band as you can get without getting it actually being so….pretty raunchy and hard hitting….it does look pretty great from the 34 second trailer that we have here.

from Premiere (France):
Robert Pattinson is sexy and violent in Cosmopolis teaser.

from Up and Comers:
As the British actor looks to shed his image, and the famed director aims to gain back some of the critical acclaim that rumours would suggest he has recently lost, we see Pattinson’s Eric Packer shoot himself in the hand, have sex in a limosine and ask us darkly to “show me something I don’t know”.
Actually, it looks like Pattinson is showing us something we don’t know.

from Horror Smorgasbord:
Can you survive a journey into the mind of David Cronenberg. His movies are twisted, depraved and fucking genius in my opinion. Even though Twi-hards will see Mr. Pattinson’s name on the poster this role will be nothing like they are probably use to seeing from the actor. Either way it’s a Cronenberg film so sign me up

from ScreenRush:
The teaser, while brief, is intriguing and definitely looks to have the cerebral Cronenberg touch he is so well known for as well as some serious gnarly violence.

from Down With Film:
Okay so that is one hell of a teaser trailer. It looks like Cronenberg is really on to a winner here!! Could this be the role I finally fall for Robert Pattinson?
