Just days before "Cosmopolis" opens in limited release, star Robert Pattinson has joined the cast of Werner Herzog's indie "Queen of the Desert," which will star Naomi Watts as English writer Gertrude Bell. 

Pic will chronicle Bell's life as a writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political attache for the British Empire. One of the first women to graduate from Oxford at the turn of the 20th century, she traveled through the Middle East, defining the borders of Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. 

Pattinson is attached to play T.E. Lawrence, a British Army officer whose writing earned him international fame as Lawrence of Arabia, on whom David Lean's classic 1962 epic is based. Lawrence was a good friend to Bell over the years, as the duo helped establish the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq. 

Cassian Elwes and Nick Raslan (Herzog's "Rescue Dawn") are producing the pic, which is aiming to start production in late fall. 

Outside of the "Twilight" franchise that catapulted him to fame, Pattinson has avoided blockbusters to work on challenging indie projects with acclaimed directors. After wrapping Francis Lawrence's adaptation of "Water for Elephants" and the lusty period pic "Bel Ami," Pattinson chose to work with David Cronenberg on "Cosmopolis," which opens Friday. Thesp is set to star opposite Guy Pearce in David Michod's Aussie drama "The Rover," as well as the indie thriller "Mission: Blacklist," which chronicles the hunt for Saddam Hussein. 

Pattinson is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, Curtis Brown Group and attorney Robert Offer.

And he’s also financing the $11 million “Hate Mail,” with Scarlett Johansson, Robert Pattinson and Philip Seymour Hall. And he executive produced “The Paperboy,” also screening in competition in Cannes.
That's a lot of money to be throwing down. Benaroya, apart from noting that he's only lost money on one movie he's made thus far, said he likes to gamble.

Casting Rumor: Robert Pattinson to Star in CHILD 44
Summit is out to directors for an adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s crime drama CHILD 44. The project was originally set up at Fox 2000, with Ridley Scott directing. But while they may not have a director yet, they do have a star, according to what we’re hearing. And that star is none other than Robert Pattinson, the beloved Edward in Summit’s TWILIGHT franchise. RPat would play Leo, a strong-willed former member of the Soviet state police who investigates a series of childkillins that are being covered up by the very group he used to lead. It’s pretty different fare for the teen heartthrob, but it’ll give him a good excuse to stretch his acting chops.

Ok... nothing is confirmed by Rob or his agent and so on...

BUT if you look carefully to all the update on Spunk Ransom (tweets, imDb and so on, carefully collected), as we say in French, "ma foi", that could be awesome.....!! just imagine Rob in a "action" movie... (didn't he say he wanted a film where he could run in it...

Madeleine Stowe talked to MySanAntonio about Unbound Captives:

"While at the ranch, Stowe came up with the idea to write "a large romantic Western" that was inspired, she said, by stories of the Hill Country in the late 1800s. "I heard about children who were abducted by Comanche Indians and became so acculturated that they had a hard time returning." "Our ranch had a real history," she added. "When I lived there, I felt a certain way about Texas that I hadn't seen filmed yet."

She'll start directing The Unbound Captives next year, she said, and already has rounded up the main cast: Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson.

Rob last talked about the movie in March with MTV.

I really hoping for that project to be done...

Robert Pattinson and Sean Penn are circling Fox 2000's Depression-era drama "Water for Elephants."

Reese Witherspoon has already boarded to the film, which will be directed by Francis Lawrence. Scribe Richard LaGravenese is adapting for the bigscreen.

Based on Sara Gruen's best-selling historical tome of the same name, story centers on a Cornell U. veterinary student who leaves his studies after his parents are killed and joins up with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, working as a vet for the circus. Witherspoon will play Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August (Penn), the charismatic but twisted animal trainer.

Studio, which is eyeing a June start date, wouldn't confirm details of the project. Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew Tennenbaum are producing.

"Twilight" star Pattinson has been on every studio's wish list. His deal is expected to close. Penn, who is in Haiti on a humanitarian mission, is the bigger question mark. He has an offer from the studio but is still mulling the role.

Twilight Saga franchise star Robert Pattinson has finally found a studio film to sink his teeth into. He's in talks to star in Water for Elephants, the Richard LaGravanese-scripted adaptation of the Sara Gruen novel that Fox 2000 is putting together with Francis Lawrence directing. Reese Witherspoon is already attached, and the studio is courting Sean Penn to return from a big screen sabbatical by playing the other lead in the Depression-era romantic triangle. The novel was a runaway bestseller, and in keeping with the eclectic output of Fox 2000's Elizabeth Gabler. Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew Tennenbaum are producing.

Pattinson is in talks to play Jacob, a 21 year old who joins a second-rate traveling circus after he’s traumatized by the car crash death of both parents. He left just before he was to take his veterinary medicine exams at an Ivy League school, and finds his place in the circus by caring for the menagerie of mangy animals. He falls in love with Marlena, the show’s star performer (Witherspoon), and that's courting danger since she's married to the paranoid schizophrenic animal trainer who runs the show. That is the role that Penn is circling. Deals still have to be made, and putting three pricey stars in a period adult drama is a challenging proposition.

Pattinson, who between Twilight segments starred for Summit in Remember Me, has been cautious about choosing his next job, but the prospect of starring in another well-known literary adaptation, potentially alongside two Oscar winners, seems a strong move. The hope is to get the picture into production around June, before he returns for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Robert Pattinson, Hugh Jackman To Star In 'Unbound Captives'

'Robert said yes last fall, before everything broke with 'Twilight,' actress/director Madeleine Stowe says.

Actors Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson have all had their share of buzz this May, with Jackman and Weisz lining up multiple movie deals in the past two weeks, and Pattinson continuing to ride the "Twilight" wave. Now all three are lending their star power to the writing and directorial debut of actress Madeleine Stowe for her period drama, "Unbound Captives."

"Captives" is a tale set in 1865 America about a woman (played by Weisz) whose husband is killed by a Comanche war party and whose two children (one of whom will be played by Pattinson) are kidnapped. She is then rescued by a frontiersman (Jackman).
Stowe penned the script under the pseudonym O.C. Humphrey in 1993, hoping to play the lead role herself. According to Variety. Fox offered her $3 million, then raised the offer to $5 million, one of the highest offers ever made to a first-time screenwriter.
Ridley Scott was interested in directing and Russell Crowe wanted to star, but the actress turned down that offer because there was no promise that she would be involved beyond a screenwriter's credit.
"There are moments in life where you need to follow your heart. The script remained my singular focus, but directing it myself wasn't something I ever dreamed of," said Stowe, who was encouraged to take the director's chair by the film's producer, Gil Netter, Variety reported. She'll be aided in her debut by experienced cinematographer John Toll, who has been responsible for such historical epics as "Braveheart" and "The Last Samurai."
Though Stowe no longer gets to play the part for which she once turned down $5 million, she is enthusiastic about Weisz taking the role. "I saw three actresses, and knew after meeting with Rachel that she was the person I wanted to hand this role to," she told the paper.
She also managed to land her handsome male leads with a bit of lucky timing, noting, "Robert said yes last fall, before everything broke with 'Twilight.' Hugh said yes a couple of weeks ago." Filming is expected to start by the end of the year.

*  The older Phineas is in the latter parts of the script, perhaps the last third. It is definitely a supporting role.
