Robert became aware of the vital emergency medical and essential primary healthcare services the RFDS provides to people living in the outback during his time filming the “The Rover” in Marree, on South Australia’s Birdsville Track.
In addition to its 21 bases across Australia, the RFDS operates the Marree Health Service, which provides an outpatient nursing service, home visiting service and 24-hour medical consultations to pastoralists and tourists to the region.
The TREK Madone 3.1 WSD bicycle, valued at $2,000 RRP, will be auctioned at the ‘Wings for Life’ Gala Ball, The Bazaar Ball, at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Saturday 31 May.
While the popular ‘Wings for Life’ Gala Ball is already sold out, the RFDS is able to take pre-bids to purchase the bicycle at the live auction on behalf of any interested parties not attending the event itself. All expressions of interest to do so will need to be received by the RFDS and secured with a deposit by COB Thursday 29 May, 2014.

*SOLD..!* Robert Pattinson's artwork, "Unfinished City"...

was sold for $6 400...!

well it is now over... and Rob's artwork was sold with a bid of $6,400... AND that is quite impressive...

from The Inquisitr
What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the name Robert Pattinson? Adored movie star, actor, musician, heartthrob? Well, now there’s one more item to add to that list: He can also draw — rather well, in fact.

About eight weeks ago Pattinson contributed a hand-drawn sketch to the “Home Plate Project,” an Arizona based group of fundraisers who work within the local community, with a specific focus on the homeless this year.
The project is actually part of the “D-backs Give Back League,” a non-profit program run by employees of Phoenix’s major league baseball team, The Arizona Diamondbacks.
So how did Robert Pattinson become part of this story?
Tim Emory, one of the organizers of the “Home Plate Project” and co- head of “Circling for Success,” the team that came up with the fundraiser drive for the homeless explains:

“Robert heard about us through his assistant Jeff [last name omitted by request.] Jeff grew up with Cory Parsons, a key member of the Home Plate Project team.” [along with Luis Calderon.]
And according to Emory, when Pattinson was asked if he would like to contribute a sketch to the project he jumped at the chance.

“[He was] really excited to create something to help the project,” Emory says.
The result? “Unfinished City.” The name of the sketch Pattinson drew using pencil on a wooden plate, which was then painted white and put up for auction online.

Other sketch-on-a-plate contributors include: NBC TV host Jay Leno, retired major league outfielder Luis Gonzalez (who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1999-2006), blind, mural artist David Tineo, Darius Rucker of Hootie and The Blowfish, The Harlem Globetrotters, and a plate from Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall’s family.
Bidding began on July 20 and finished midnight, August 31. In a phone call, Emory said the first bid for Pattinson’s plate began at $ 150. But after Robsessed — a Robert Pattinson fan site — started publicizing the auction, that figure jumped to $ 1,500 within three hours.
Then, things got crazy.

“Bids came in from all over,” says Emory. “There was a worldwide response due to Robert Pattinson’s participation. It’s really what got us all the attention and helped us raise all this money.”

So how much did Pattinson’s sketched plate go for?
A whopping $ 6, 400. No word on who bought it yet, but with a signed photograph of the actor as part of the package it’s doubtful they’ll be eating off it. Unsurprisingly, Pattinson’s sketch was “by far” the highest bid says Emory, zooming past the $ 3000 to $ 5000 in a matter of weeks before frantic bidding at the end.
In total the “Home Plate Project” raised over $ 50,000, with some of the money coming from the auction and the rest given by Arizona residents. Astounded by the amount, Emory’s overwhelming reaction was gratitude.

The D-backs Give Back League is a program designed for Arizona Diamondbacks employees to contribute toward the community. We are an independent co-worker coalition, acting beyond any scope of employment with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Home Plate Project is a fundraiser for local non-profits. The idea of the program is to get members of the Arizona community to decorate home plates that will be provided to them. The plates will then be put on-line here for auction. Participants are encouraged to decorate their plate any way they like that shows their personality, their company’s personality, mission, what they do or just any fun idea they choose. They may paint the plate, attach crafts, apply a photo or again; any way they want to creatively use the space. There is one rule; be creative!!!

Just in case some of you didn’t know Shannon aka Schelmy ’s husband had an accident and fell 25 feet to the ground a few weeks ago. He survived but had many injuries which required surgeries.

Unfortunately they were in the process of renewing their insurance when this happened and a few days before the accident, their insurance ran out… Shannon received her 1st hospital bill this week. It’s 136,000.00$ US. The hospital has refused to negotiate a payment plan and has given them 30 days to pay this amount. . For this family, this could mean losing it all. Shannon is one of the most caring and sweetest persons I know. She always puts herself out there to help everyone. Now it’s our turn to do the same for her. If you were in New York City at the Water for Elephants Premiere you might have met her. She was with us.

Many people have donated items which we are putting up for auction. All the funds collected will be going directly to Shannon and her family to help with the medical bills.
