A l'affiche de Cosmopolis, le nouveau film de David Cronenberg en compétition à Cannes, Robert Pattinson s'est prêté pour Première à un shooting dément qui aura duré treize heures. A découvrir dans le numéro de mai.
En général, quand vous organisez une séance photo avec un comédien dont les films ont rapporté plus de 2,7 milliards de dollars à travers le monde, vous mettez le doigt dans un engrenage de frilosité, d’image soigneusement contrôlée et de garde-fous à volonté. Le tout chronométré à la nano seconde près, évidemment, sachant que si la star arrive en retard, il va de soi qu’elle repartira à l’heure. Je dis bien « en général », car rien de tout ça ne s’applique à Robert Pattinson.
C’est à la fin de notre interview que l’acteur a eu l’idée de cette séance photo en hommage aux films de David Cronenberg, comme pour témoigner son respect au cinéaste qui, en le castant dans Cosmopolis, vient de lui offrir non seulement un passeport pour l’après-Twilight, mais aussi l’occasion de venir célébrer en grande pompe ce fracassant passage à l’âge adulte sur les marches cannoises le 25 mai.
Dire qu’il s’est impliqué dans la conception de ce photo shoot relève de l’euphémisme. Les premières images de Scanners ou Vidéodrome que nous lui avions soumises pour servir d’inspiration aux futurs clichés nous sont revenues avec un commentaire inattendu : Rob regrettait qu’elles ne soient pas assez audacieuses, voulait repousser les limites avec cette séance – l’inverse de ce qu’aurait habituellement demandé quelqu’un dans sa situation. Deux jours plus tard, le photographe Eliot Lee Hazel et son équipe, plutôt insolite pour ce genre de prise de vue (un maquilleur d’effets spéciaux, une femme enceinte...), se réunissaient dans un hôtel lugubre de downtown L.A. pour donner le coup d’envoi de ce shooting, qui durera exactement treize heures.
Après avoir découvert le résultat dans ces pages, on est prêts à parier que vous ne regarderez plus Robert Pattinson de la même manière. Que les derniers faux-semblants pouvant encore peser sur l’acteur s’envoleront aussi hâtivement qu’ils étaient apparus.

In general, when you organize a photoshoot with an actor, whose movies made more than 2.7 billion of dollars all over the world, you except someone cold and shy, someone with a controlled image and with a safeguard. Everything is timed to the last minute, especially if the actor arrives late, everything has to be started over again. I say 'in general' because all of this doesn't apply to Robert Pattinson!
It's at the end of our interview that the actor comes up with the idea of a photoshoot dedicated to David Cronenberg's movies. Like an homage to his respect for the filmmaker, who by casting him in Cosmopolis, offered him not only a passport for after Twilight but also the opportunity to come and celebrate his entry to the adult age, on the steps of Cannes on May 25th.
To say that he got involved in the making of the photoshoot is an euphemism. The first images of Scanners and Videodrome we prepared for him as an inspiration for the future snapshots came back to us with an unexpected commentary: Rob was sorry that they weren't more daring, wanting to push all the limits with this shoot - the complete opposite of what someone in his position would have asked. Two days later, the photograph Eliot Lee Hazel and his crew - sort of strange for this kind of shoot (a special effect makeup artist, a pregnant lady ...) - met in a gloomy hotel in downtown L.A. to give the go-ahead of this shoot that lasted for exactly 13 hours.
After seeing the results of this shoot, we're ready to bet that you won't look at Robert Pattinson the same way again. That the last pretense who might still weigh on the actor will fly away as fast as they appeared.
